Edit menu not appearing, cursor not placing.

In selecting text, the edit menu will fail to appear, sometimes after 40 or more touches. And less frequently, when placed, the cursor will appear at another location.

It’s the worst in Notes, where editing is more challenging, sometimes undoable. It rarely happens in Safari. Mail and Messages, trouble with the edit menu appearing will happen about every two hours. A little less often, when placing a cursor, it can take ten or more tries. Sometimes not for days, but over time it’s getting worse.

Restarting fixes it. A variety of touches — firm, light, quick, long, even different orientations — all make no difference. Updating iOS may make it worse. Selecting text is perhaps the most fundamental part of computer use, and this is an iPad Pro. Tim doesn’t get into this at Apple events, you may have noticed. It happens on the iPhone 12 as well.

Honestly, the edit menu isn’t always elusive for 40-50 tries. Sometimes only ten or twenty.

Am I the only one coaxing the edit menu into existence?

Hi  Jed Fish Gould,

Thanks for contacting the Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to place your cursor in Notes on your iPad without tapping multiple times or restarting your iPad.

When you experience this behavior, do you have any Bluetooth or wired devices connected to your iPad?

Do you use a screen protector? If so, do you experience the same behavior if you remove the screen protector?

We look forward to your reply.

Cheers!
