iPad and my MacBook Pro keeps flashing the iPad in and out of finder

This is driving me crazy I plug my iPad into my MacBook Pro and all of a sudden 50 million "Trust this Computer | Don't Trust this Computer" flash up one after the other on my iPad, while at the same time in the Finder window on my MacBook Pro my iPad flashes in to the left hand menu then disappears, flashes in then disappears over and over and over and I can't select either.

I really want to sync my devices and back up my iPad and this is infuriating me.

Have you tried another Lightning cable?

Maybe another USB port as well.
