Hi, I just updated to Mac Os Big Sur and the same inactive internet exchange account keeps getting added to my overview. I cannot delete the account quick enough and have over 20 of the same now and counting. I have no access to this account anymore and am not able to delete it as it keeps getting added faster then I can delete. No problems before the update, the account was just marked inactive. Thanks for your help.
Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and delete the unwanted exchange accounts from there. Reboot normally and check to see if the problem persists.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Hi and many thanks for the quick reply. I did as you suggested and had partial success. During the safe mode reboot I deleted the accounts quicker then they got added so managed to delete the account from the list. What it then started doing is adding the account once and deleting it again, adding and deleting etc. So I don't have an endless list anymore but only the same account again adding and deleting itself. This happens every 20 sec. Same in normal mode. Is there something else I can try? Many thanks
Where are you deleting these accounts? In the Mail app or in the System/Internet Accounts preference pane?
Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing? Be sure to blur out any personal info in the screenshots.
System/internet account preference pane, the account doesn't show in the mail app as it's been marked inactive. screenshot with blurred lines attached. It's the account under game center, marked inactive and the little window notification pops up every 10 sec now
I'll have to bow out at this point as I've had no experience with MS Exchange before. There're are others who have and will pop in eventually.
thanks for trying. Will wait to see. It's very disruptive as the screen keeps flashing when it adds and deletes that exchange account. All help appreciated
