Hi HatiM1,

When this prompt appears, select Show In Finder. Then, move the application or file(s) to the Trash. Restart your computer afterwards.

Additionally, you might want to run a manual scan with Malwarebytes.

This happened to me too. I was not able to access Safari or Finder or any App.

Finally i was able to resolve it by following these steps that Apple provided:

1 Shut down your Mac.

2 Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds as your Mac starts up.

3 Release the power button when you see the startup disk (like shown in the image).

4 Select your startup disk, press and hold the Shift key, click Continue in Safe Mode, then release the Shift key.

5 Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Then try to download Malwarebytes for a virus scan.

If Malwarebytes is still not downloading (mine didn’t)

The next step is to restart your computer (without safemode).

And try downloading Malwarebytes again.

(Mine downloaded after trying all the above steps and I was able to get rid of the virus).

Goodluck! I know it’s a scary experience.

I’m not sure what others are doing to remove the DominantPartitiond malware (or whatever it is...) but here’s the method I used when Malwarebytes would not even detect the issue, much less fix it. Another similar malware, CleanParameterd, can also be removed following similar steps:

You will need to locate this folder:

/private/var/root/Library/Application Support/.DominantPartition.dp

Because of hidden files and locked folders, you will likely have to open each step manually. To find the initial “private” folder, toggle show hidden files with the “command+shift+.” shortcut. The root and Library folders are locked, but using “get info” allows you to change the permissions to gain access. The final folder is also hidden. Once you get to the last folder (.DominantPartition.dp) delete it and all contents, then empty the trash. Restart to verify that the pop up no longer occurs.

Hi, I had the same problem today. And the Apple Support Team guided me to fix it already.

https://getsupport.apple.com/

First, you install Malwarebytes.

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac-download/

Second, following Malwarebytes's guide, you need to change the setting of your privacy on the System Preference.

Third, restart your PC.

The notification disappeared when I turn on the PC again! Hope this information helps you too.

Where to Go from Here:

I would reinstall the macOS anew. Simply put: Erase the hard drive, and then install it, anew. Once installed, transfer is all over using Migration Assistant. How to do so (In Depth):

I. Backup: the Mac

II. Erase: the partition

1. Boot: into Recovery Mode [Hold Down: shift key upon boot]

2. Select: Disk Utility

3. Erase: the Hard Drive

III. Reinstall: the macOS

IV. Transfer: Items over from the backup using Migration Assistant.
