Hi,

Any change if you try a PRAM reset? Press and hold the four keys Command(Apple) + Option(Alt) + P + R immediately at startup. Release the keys when a second startup sound has been heard.

Do you have access to another startup disk/disc? This could be an appropriate disk tools floppy, or a system CD. If so, you may want to check whether it is possible to complete the startup sequence with that disk/disc.

Also, check the condition of the logic board battery. Furthermore, you could remove and reinstall all cards (including RAM). Check all cables and connectors. Inspect the logic board with a magnifying glass in order to locate possibly leaking/discoloured/cracked electronic components. Bad electrolytic capacitors can cause many problems in old computers.

Do you have access to another old (pre-1998) Mac?

If absolutely necessary, there are other ways to access the data on the hard disk (for example, via an external universal USB bare drive adapter).
