File picker (Open and Save Panel) not working

Hello All,

since last few weeks , all of sudden i am finding the File picker in Open and save panel getting stuck. it just doesn't' let me select any menu item. can't use the mouse nor the key board shortcut.


And it happens no matter what application i try (Chrome, Preview, MS Office product, Firefox etc.)


The mouse moves though, just that it doesnt' let me select any item.


any idea how to resolve this. Tired of just restartign my application and hoping it wont' happen again but sure enough in an hour or two of usage it happens again.


using MacOS Big Sur (Version 11.2.1) on a MacBook Pro 2017 edition.

Post the Etrecheck report any way according to these instructions:


Copy the report



and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.





IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:


Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.



Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.

I don't see any of the usual suspects in the report. However, I did notice a couple of items to be concerned about:


The report indicates

Software Installs (past 30 days):
Install Date Name (Version)
2021-01-25 Bitdefender Virus Scanner (3.16)

I didn't see any indication of files for this app in the report. If you installed it it should be uninstalled according to the developer's instructions.


I also noted your using Surfshark VPN. Here's some food for thought about that: unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's or bank's servers, they are useless. Public VPN's are anything but private.  


Backup and Sync is crashing a lot. Make sure you have the latest version of its software and that it's compatible with your system or change to using a local EHD and Time Machine.
