SSD died

-My MacBook Pro A1708 ran normally till today, it appears question mark. I do following the directions to re-install OS but when I go into utility to format SSD, I realize that there is no SSD here, I see only 2Gb partition, so I can not choose SSD to do something.

-My friend told me to open SSD and remove SSD for cleaning slot and SSD, I did but nothing change.

I guess my SSD had died, is this right? Is there any recommendations and help pls

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Unfortunately Disk Utility now hides the physical drives from view by default. Within Disk Utility click on "View" and select "Show All Devices" so that the physical drives appear on the left pane of Disk Utility. If you don't see the physical drive appear on the left pane of Disk Utility, then the SSD has failed. I hope you have a backup. You need to have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine and repair the laptop. In some regions it is possible to mail the laptop to Apple for the repair. Click on the "Get Support" link at the top right of this page to see the available options for your region.

It seems you have the MBPro 13" (2017) non-touchbar model with just two USB-C ports. See if your laptop qualifies for this free Apple SSD repair program:

FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products have multiple programs available such as your laptop):

Refer to this article about a blinking question mark at startup

A folder with a flashing question mark means that your startup disk is no longer available or doesn't contain a working Mac operating system.

If the question mark appears only momentarily before your Mac starts up normally:

  1. Reset NVRAM.
  2. Make sure that your preferred startup disk is selected in Startup Disk preferences.

If the question mark persists, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off.
  2. Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold Command (⌘) and R to start up from macOS Recovery.
  3. While in macOS Recovery, use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk.
  4. If Disk Utility found no errors or repaired all errors, reinstall macOS.
  5. If you still need help, please contact Apple Support.
