iphone 12 call quality problem

We have a new Iphone 12 on Verizon. Call quality degrades quickly (others hear every other word, sound not always clear) even when the caller is stationary. We've called Verizon support - no signal issues in area and have gone through the restart, restore network settings, etc. with no improvement. Iphone XR and 6 in same location do not have these issues. What is the fix?

First, check to see if this same issue happens while on speaker. If the issue continues, try a FaceTime audio call while using mobile data. We can narrow down the issue to either the service or the microphones on your iPhone. Also, try these steps to troubleshoot the microphones: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

Also, check to see if you have Wi-Fi calling enabled by going to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling. Turn it off and test another call.
