Messages - alerts and speech bubbles disappear on MacBook

When someone sends me an iMessage, I get a red notification number on the bar on my MacBook Air. Then when I open the Messages app, there's no speech bubble. It has disappeared. And I can't tell who sent me a new text.

Or if the Messages app is open, the alert pops up on my Messages screen, but only for a split second. Then it disappears. Even when I have another conversation selected. So I am missing a lot of messages. The messages don't disappear but I can't tell when I have a new one.

Any thoughts?

Hey Lanham,

It sounds like you're missing notifications from Messages on your Mac. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend toggling off notification settings in System Preferences > Notifications > Messages, then restarting your Mac and turning the notifications back on to see if that helps.

If that doesn't change anything, we'd recommend testing to see if the same issue occurs in safe mode. This article explains how: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Thanks!
