What year is your iMac. macOS Big Sur is compatible with iMacs from 2014 or later I believe, but do you get any error code when you try to update or a symbol like this? If you do, your iMac is not compatible with Big Sur. If it is, your Hard Disk may be corrupted. Try repairing the disk in Disk Utility via Recovery Mode (Hold down cmd+R keys on startup until Apple logo appears)

I did the repairing the disk in Disk Utility via Recovery Mode restarted and connected the internet connect to my computer directly with the Ethernet and not by the wireless connection since it states that the download failed " because an error occurred while downloading the selected updates, please check your internet connection & try again". I have tried about 10 times now. Both with the wireless internet connection and then with the ethernet directly plugged into my iMac and it still fails. I also have tried the install in safe mode. Any suggestions?
