I have a popup that won't go away. It says, "AdvancedSprintd will damage your computer." and then the box report malware to Apple to protect other users is checked. I downloaded software called Sophos to do a full system scan. Anyone have other suggestions?

The free version of MalwareBytes should help.
Also, just so others here can better assist you, please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Etrecheck is free from the App Store.
What did Sophos say?
You can also try Malwarebytes which works well on Adware.

Thanks! I ran Etrecheck 3x's and found adware. Deleted per instructions and restarted. Had to do it 3x's to eliminate the adware and the pop up is gone. Thanks for your help.

Sophos detected no threats. Not sure what to do next. I don't want to spend $100 on another software if this one didn't detect threats
