Hello Jambox13,
Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand you're unable to receive notifications from the Mail app on your iPhone.
Staying up to date with notifications from the Mail app is certainly important, and we'd like to help.
When Fetch New Data is set to 'Fetch' and 'Automatically,' depending on your provider, this would be expected as it requires having the iPhone connected to power and over Wi-Fi. You'll see that information if you go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data. As you've discovered, it will only retrieve that information if the app is opened or if that 15-minute interval has passed if set to 'After 15 minutes.'
If you still believe this might be an issue, we recommend to follow each of the following steps and see if the notifications for the Mail appears on your iPhone:
- Verify the notification settings for the Mail app. On your iPhone, please go to Settings > Mail > Notifications. You'll want to make sure that, "Allow Notifications" is toggled on and to have an alert style enabled: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
2. Let's ensure that your iPhone is updated to iOS 14.4: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
3. Then, check to make sure that Do Not Disturb is not on: Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
4. Verify that the date and time is set correctly: Set the date and time on iPhone
5. If you are using a VPN connection, try temporarily turning it off and then testing it again.
Please let us know if that helps.
Best regards.
