The problem is with the Dell cable. I had my own CalDigit TB4 cable working fine when I received the monitor but then decided (big mistake) to switch to the Dell cable provided with the monitor to test that out. This is when the problems started and the monitor will not detect my mac mini (had to connect / disconnect cable, switch inputs, etc to get it going). Gone back to my own TB4 cable and problem disappeared...
Yeah Apple itself says it should support it but they are wrong. I looked up the detail on the specs for that graphics card — no joy.
If that's the case, I'd say apple owns me a refund :)
Since products should support what their documentation says, not really optional as such. I'd find it quite strange if this would be the case.
Ok, so with disablemonitor I can get a picture when I force 30Hz.
What is actually preventing this from working? Did you get a real statement from Apple on this?
Agreed, or an upgrade to a model that supports the specs that are listed... CAL sounds like the correct path forward.
I updated to Big Sur and used every possible cable, Not this issue.
How is this is solved????? the fact is the issue is ongoing and is a hardware issue that should not be an issue based on the specs of the computer.

Nope. 2018 MBP will never run this monitor properly. Sorry. I got my monitor several months ago so it seem unlikely that would would now get a bad firmware.
