Since installing Big Sur, not only have they removed my favourite sound effect, Purr, but now I cannot change the sound effects at all. Big Sur automatically chose "Pluck" and I know what I'd LIKE to call it.
Has anyone figured out how to change it ? I have tried selecting other sound effects, but when I close System Preferences, I get the same old Pluck.

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Something is amiss in your system. It’s perfectly possible to change the sounds and even to add your own. Try what Old Toad said first. If it still doesn’t work, Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.
