icloud documents

Hiya can anyone explain to me in basic language how to get my files back on my mac and not stored on iCloud?

iCloud is a syncing service; therefore your documents in iCloud Documents are on BOTH your Mac and on iCloud. They are not "stored" on iCloud in isolation.


If you wanted to remove a file from iCloud Documents use Finder to locate the iCloud Drive folder then the file in that folder. Move the file to another folder on your Mac. This will remove the file from iCloud, but retain the file on your Mac.


Be aware though that doing this will mean that you have only the copy of the file on your Mac and you ought to have a backup regime such as Time Machine.
