Replacement AirPods microphone is muffled

Hi, my 2nd generation AirPods developed a fault after 6 months where the microphone made everything sound muffled. After contacting Apple support my AirPods were replaced, however the new replacements have developed the same fault after only 2 or 3 weeks. They never leave my desk and always kept in the holder when not in use. I’ve not even been outside with them yet. Could it be an issue with my iPhone 12?

Hello,

Hmm, assuming that they've been cleaned, try this:

Open the Settings app and go to the Bluetooth section. Next to the AirPods entry on the list of devices, you should see an “i” icon inside of a circle. Tap this, then select microphone, and set it to either left, right or automatic. Try switching it back and forth.

Then, test with the Voice Memos app.
