USB C Display keeps going to power-saving mode

When connecting my new monitor through USB-C to my MacBook Pro 2018 15", the video output shows for a couple of seconds before the monitor switches into power-saving mode. When I change the resolution of the video-output in the Mac settings, the monitor again quickly shows the image before turning off. It seems to work ok in safe mode. Any thoughts? I didn't have this problem with my 2013 MacBook.

Hello ispydiw,

We understand that you're monitor is going into power-saving mode unexpectedly. With this working as expected in safe mode, that would suggest this may be related to software on your Mac. Do you have any kind of third-party software that manages performance, power, and the like? If so, are you able to disable it? Safe mode prevents those kinds of things from running, so if something works in safe ode then that points to these kinds of situations.
