iPhone keeps muting messages

The most recent OS update has fixed the problem. I turned alerts back on for the group text that it kept muting and this time alerts remained on. I don't know and never discovered whether the SW glitch causing this problem was in macOS or iOS. I have installed updates from both recently.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you hide the alerts for a group message thread but it won’t remain on after enabling alerts for the thread again. We’re happy to help.

Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data? If Wi-Fi, we recommend testing on another Wi-Fi network. If you haven’t tested, we want to see if this works as expected using cellular data. This will allow us to isolate the cause further.

I’m having the same issue. I’ve rebooted numerous times, nothing. Why is this happening?

Same here. Upgraded phone thinking if I started fresh on a new phone that all would be fine. This is an incredibly annoying software glitch that is really upsetting. It mutes my family conversation where I get updates on my medically fragile nephew. I’m about ready to leave Verizon over it since they don’t care to find a fix and keep passing the buck onto subscribers. I’m ******.

This solution is not useful if you are not the originator of the group message. Also, by having yourself removed you would lose all the content of the thread.

I have the same problem. And it's just 2 family members in a group. No matter how many times I unmute them or restart my phone, I find messages and the group is back muted again.

same here, just three of us. It’s still happening even after two updates. Annoying

I’m having this problem also. I’ve tried all the suggestions I’ve found here but thus far nothing has fixed the problem.

This is still happening to me too. Super annoying and what’s worse people think I’m ignoring them!
