can I add m1 chip to my iMac

I recently purchased a new iMac about a year and a half ago. Would I be able to add an M1 chip to my preexisting iMac or would I have to buy a whole new computer?

No. The new M1 Macs are designed around the chips and the old Intel iMac would not be compatible.
