My MacBook Pro "other storage" full

My Mac is showing other is full. I've done all the listed recommendations to clear my storage. I need more help than basic tips. I've deleted everything I can and the storage amount in other only gets higher.

Help!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Welcome, cb2021, to Apple Support Communities!

One of the things I did that decreased my “Other” storage category the most was to turn off “Content Caching”: System Preferences -> Sharing -> Content Caching.

Another thing that can take a significant portion of the “Other” storage category are local Time Machine snapshots. Unfortunately, such are not easily “paired down” manually. (Yes. There are those that share how to decrease such—one at a time—but, in my experience, such has little discernible affect upon your Available storage.)

However, since Time Machine only keeps local snapshot “as space is available”, Time Machine will delete and combine such, as you need more storage, if given a chance—especially if you have an attached, external Time Machine Backup drive.

Are you trying to make storage available for a Big Sur upgrade?

Try something like OmniDiskSweeper for a GUI to get a good look at itemized file size and location:

Please, cb2021, let’s be clear about (drive) Storage (where that “Other” storage category resides, for instance), vs. “memory”—Random Access Memory (RAM).

The “basics” to clearing your Storage is to empty your Trash, delete any files you don’t need (emptying Trash, of course, to complete this process), offloading whatever files you can to some other storage device (like iCloud or an external drive).

As for Time Machine: go to System Preferences -> Time Machine, and see if “Back Up Automatically” is selected (turned on).

Content caching was not on... now it is trying to turn on and am waiting to turn it off again. Ugh!

I don't know what the Time Machine Snapshots are. I doubt I have used that on my computer as I don't even know what it is.

I was trying to update Big Sur and don't have enough memory, however, the memory issue keeps popping up while I'm working online and not trying to update anything.

I've done all of the basics to clear memory.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.
