AirPods won’t select to play music

my AirPods are connected to my iPhone and come up on AirPlay but when I select them it just shows the loading wheel then switches back to iPhone. I’ve tried everything disconnecting, resetting, updating, switching off etc. The AirPods also make my phone so slow it’s painful to use! I have second gen AirPods with the wireless charging case and I’m ready to through them in the bin!

We understand you're experiencing an issue with your iPhone performance and AirPods pairing, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

To get started, forget your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth, then pair them again: Connect and use your AirPods and AirPods Pro

Also, if you have another device available, see if you experience the same issue there.
