On my iMac 27 inch late 2009 the CD/DVD drive doesn't work.

Optical CD/DVD drive on my iMac is loading the disk, but after trying to read for some while, is ejecting it. Any hints what to do?

iMac 27″, OS X 10.11

Your iMac has long been on Apple's world-wide vintage and obsolete product list which means that no Apple Store, or Apple Authorized Service Center will work on it for you, and the parts are no longer being made. So you cannot just use those venues to help fix the internal drive issues.

The simplest repair is to purchase an external, Mac-compatible USB 2.0/3.0 CD/DVD drive and just plug it into the iMac.
