Images not showing in Messages on MacBook Air

I am on macOS Big Sur (11.2.2) and images are not showing up in the Messages app. Texts do show up, but images sent by people do not:

This is what I see on my iPhone:

Additionally if I send images from my MacBook Air, they do not get received, though it looks like they've been sent.

I have tried logging in and out of iCloud. I've also tried to repair permissions, and checked the aliases in the library folders.

Other suggestions for what I can do to fix this?

Hey there, willwp! We can help.

When it comes to using Messages, its important to remember that a data connection is definitely needed, so if you're having trouble with receiving photos and messages, and yours don't seem to be sending correctly, we'll want to check that first.

You can use these steps to connect to a Wi-Fi network and Connect to the internet with your Mac. If you find that you are connected, but the issue remains, try connecting to a different network, in case the issue is with your connection and not your Mac.

Take care.
