mac cant sign in to aol mail

Computer keeps asking for my aol password yo retrieve mail. When I enter the password it says can to verify. I can go to aol using my browser and log in there with no problem. Other mail accounts (gmail, yahoo) work correctly. How can I fix this?

When I tried to reestablish the AOL account in Mac Mail I got the message, "Unable to verify account name or password," despite having the correct password that I used to login to the AOL website. If you are able to login to AOL directly, I have a SOLUTION to this problem! Login to the AOL website. Click on Options in the upper right corner of your AOL window. Click on Account Info Click on Account Security on the left side of the new window. AOL will make you login again. The Account Security window will open. Click on Manage app passwords. An App Passwords window will open. Click the Select Your App drop down menu Click on Mac Mail Click on Generate That will give you a 16 character pass word to copy It will give you instructions for how to paste that pw into your System Settings / Internet Account / for AOL.
