Noise Reduction always processing

Have a multicam clip wherein two of the angles need noise reduction. Dragged the FCP effect onto those sub-clips, but even after several hours there's still text in the bottom left of those clips that says "Processing Noise Reduction...".

Clips are only a few minutes long. Only the frame I had skimmed to when the NR effect was added looks like noise reduction has been applied.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Dragged onto the "sub-clip" in the project or in the multicam clip editor. NR is very slow. Switch off background rendering or it will keep rendering it forever.

Dragged onto the entire angle in the multicam clip editor. I'll try turning off background rendering. Thanks for chiming in.
