how to stop iphone change from speaker to audio

I have an iPhone 12 Pro.

Bluetooth is OFF and is never on.

I have removed facetime.

I do not have linked calls set up. I never have had linked calls on this phone.

The speaker option changes to audio every few days. I turn off and on the phone and this resets back to speaker.

I want to permanently stop my phone changing from speaker to audio as I have no requirement for audio options.

There must be something I am missing as it has been just plain speaker previously.

Hello, Cypher70!

After reviewing your post, it seems like you are having issues with your your audio output options changing. We definitely understand that having to readjust that so often can be a concern and we'd love to help. If there are sound issues with your iPhone, this article may help: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If this does not resolve the issue, can you give us a few more details? When you on an active phone call, do you not have the option for "Speaker" but instead "Audio”? If so, this happens when 1) you have a Bluetooth connected speaker system (including headphones, cars, speakers, etc) or 2) have a nearby iCloud connected (using the same iCloud account) Mac or other iOS device. Are neither of those occurring?

Please let us know if you have follow-up questions, or if the issue remains unresolved. Have a great day!

Got it, thank you Cypher70. Let's continue by taking the following steps, which may help with this unexpected behavior. Restart your iPhone, make sure it is up to date and close/reopen the running apps.

1. Restart your iPhone

2. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

3. Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

When you got this iPhone, was it set up as a new device or did you load a backup from an older iPhone onto it?

Please get back with us after taking those steps and let us know how it goes. Thank you!

Hello and thank you.

Okay here is some additional information.

Bluetooth is off on my phone.

I am not connected to iCloud.

I reset my phone, and for several days when I go to make a call (or receive) it shows the option as speaker.

After several days the speaker icon changes to audio and shows 3 options(speaker, iPhone and iPad).

My iPad has never been linked to this iPhone and does not have Bluetooth on.

I have gone through the articles that say about unlinking a device but no where are these two devices linked (That I can find).

I only want the speaker option, and I don't want to have to reset every few days. My previous iPhone (X) did not do this.

Hi guys,

Well after nearly a week it has gone back toi showing audio and not speaker.

I have turned off and on and it reverts back to just speaker.

Bluetooth is off most of the time (only for 1 minute a day to connect to a HR monitor).

SHared device calling is off. But now shows ipad as an option? Ipad never has bluetooth on.

Please help. I just want to default to speaker.

Thanks heaps.

Thanks for getting back with us about this. This should be happening when you connect different devices to the audio but not out of nowhere like this. So we want to continue probing into this behavior. Let's look into possible software causes for this next. If your iPhone is not backed up, we'd like you to take those steps now: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Once that is complete, we'd like you to restore the iPhone and apply that backup to it. This will refresh the software on your iPhone, but not cause you to lose any data. When that is done, please use your iPhone as normal and see if the behavior persists. When ready, this article explains how to restore your iPhone: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup.

Let us know how this goes! We're here to see this through to the end with you. Take care.

Hello and I hope you are well.

Okay thanks for the ideas.

I never have any apps running in the background, I use an app and then cl;ose.

I update apps daily.

iOS is up to date.

As mentioned in my original post, I have to restart my phone very couple of days when the speaker icon changes to Audio.

A good question regarding the setup. I would guess it was from a back up from my iPhone X (where this never happened).

I am guessing there is a setting somewhere that is causing this but I have tried to find it.

Appreciate the help and open to ideas.
