Can I person have multiple Apple IDs

I have a personal apple ID. But I have two apple iPhones from two different companies I work with. Is there a way, I can have a separate apple ID for second iphone so that the devices remain separate for contacts, documents, imessaging etc. What I find is If I use the same apple ID in both phones, then all the things get merged in both phones. Thanks for any help.
