Apple customer service request a passport/driving license

I contacted Apple customer service via phone today as I did not receive the item I ordered. Received an email from Apple right after I finished the call, asking me to provide my passport or driving license via email so they can investigate the shipping issue. I'm confused as I don't think they need my ID in order to find a missing parcel?! Does anyone know the reason why or it's scam?

Yes, I got that email right after I called them and it has the correct order number on it.

I’ve just called Apple again and they confirmed that the email is from them so everything is good. Although I don’t think it’s quite right to ask for an ID in this case (as it’s not my fault that their driver couldn’t do his job), I’m glad that email wasn’t a scam.
