Deleted the child's Apple ID and I still can't "Stop Using Family Sharing"

I set up family sharing on my ipad, to manage my child's account. But we wound up adding him to my partner's family plan with a different AppleID. I deleted the old, unused AppleID that was on my family plan, but I still can't select "stop using family sharing" or accept the invitation to join his family sharing.

I get an error that says "Family has other members."

But there are no other members visible.

Hello salamandeer,

It sounds like you are having trouble joining another Family Sharing group.

Here are some resources that might help:

  • Review Set up Family Sharin.g
    • Note "Remember, you can only join one family at a time, and you can only switch to a different family group once per year."

If it still doesn't work, you may want to Contact Apple Support

Hope this information helps.

Have a good day.

I'm not sure you read my question.

I do not want to transfer the child's Apple ID to a new family. I want to delete the Apple ID.

I followed the instructions to delete the account, got a notification as the "Family organizer" that I had to approve the request. I followed the instructions to approve the request and got a notice that the account would be deleted. That was 10 days ago.

The only way I was given to check the status of the deletion request was to log in to privacy.apple.com and check, but when I try to log in with the deleted ID it says the ID doesn't exist.

And yet, when I try to select "Stop Using Family Sharing" or try to join a different family, I get this error: "Family has other members."

The only conclusion I can draw is that Apple did not actually delete the child's account as requested, and that seems to be a direct violation of Apple's privacy policy. Needless to say, I'm pretty frustrated about this.
