Rosetta Stone on MacBook Air M1 : Software Update[1439:40665] Package Authorization Error: 071-08933

Hello everyone. I have been trying to install Rosetta Stone 2 on a MacBook Air M1.

From the GUI it fails. From the command line I get this error:

Last login: Tue Mar 2 19:03:54 on ttys000

****@ MacBookAir ~ % /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta

I have read and agree to the terms of the software license agreement. A list of Apple SLAs may be found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/

Type A and press return to agree: A

2021-03-0219:07:53.142 softwareupdate[1439:40665] Package Authorization Error: 071-08933: Package reference com.apple.pkg.RosettaUpdateAuto is missing instalIKBytes s attribute

Install failed with error: An error has occurred. Please try again later.

I have searched for the error code but google has no info. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I fixed it by going to /System/Library/CoreServices and double-clicking in Rosetta 2 Updater.

Are you having issues with the Rosetta 2 app for Mac using an M1 chip, or the Rosetta Stone language learning apps?

If you are having an issue with the Rosetta 2 app (the app that allows your Mac with an M1 processor to use apps designed for Intel Processors) the process to install the app when you are getting error messages is as follows.

First step is to uninstall the Rosetta 2 app from the command line.

Open the Terminal application, and also open the finder

In the command line Type "Sudo uninstall file://

Go to the Finder and open "Yourname" Mac. open the Mac drive, then open the System, then open the Library tab, and then the Core Services Tab, scroll down and find the "Rosetta 2 updater" tab and drag the Icon to the command line in the open Terminal window. and run the command. Once the uninstall is complete. Restart you Mac

Once the Restart is done, reinstall the app from the command line. You can do so quickly by typing

"/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license"

Once that installs you will need to restart again. That will fix the issue so you can use apps designed for Intel

I'm having the same issue with my Mac Mini M1:

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

Running the above command (with or without sudo) returns the following error:

"softwareupdate[15818:80800] Package Authoring Error: 071-32415: Package reference com.apple.pkg.RosettaUpdateAuto is missing installKBytes attribute"

I also tried to go to /System/Library/CoreServices and run Rosetta 2 Updater, but it shows

"An error has occurred. Please try again later."

Anyone had luck with this? When I try to uninstall Rosetta in the terminal I get this: "sudo: uninstall: command not found". So I see that this means that Rosetta is not installed. The next logical step would be to INSTALL Rosetta. So I go to install Rosetta via the terminal and also get: "Package Authoring Error: 071-32415: Package reference com.apple.pkg.RosettaUpdateAuto is missing installKBytes attribute"

But it still says that Rosetta installs "successfully" as seen here: https://ibb.co/hZ7x21M

Ok so if Rosetta 2 installed "successfully" I can now just test this by UNINSTALLING it right? Nope, just get command not found again.

I'm on a brand new MacBook Pro 14.2" with Monterey 12.01

Literally had problems out of the box. I recently switched from PC for audio production because Apple has always been known for being 'plug and play' but I am very quickly regretting my decision and am having thoughts on returning this thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

To open Terminal, go to Applications → Utilities → Terminal.

Type sudo uninstall file:// into the command line.

Then go to the Applications folder in Finder and drag the icon of the app that you wish to uninstall into the Terminal window — it will automatically paste itself.

Hit Enter and type in your user password to remove the app and its leftover files from your Mac.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm trying to use Pro Tools (most current version): 2021.10

I recently installed some plugins that I purchased from Positive Grid (specific plugin: Bias FX2). Pro Tools becomes completely unresponsive when it tries to load/scan Bias FX 2 as seen here: https://ibb.co/BcjNC7N

Positive Grid has recommended that their products be used with Rosetta. Pro Tools also looks to be an intel based application as seen here: https://ibb.co/vdPK6TV

It's just weird that Pro Tools seemingly attempts to boot up, it just crashes 100% of the time when attempting to scan/load Bias FX2.

Wow you are good my friend. I didn't even consider this because I was so consumed with figuring out Rosetta and the fact that Pro Tools seems like it would load fine until attempting to load the newly installed plugins.

At this time macOS Monterey is not supported."

Now I just need to divert attention to reverting this update. Thanks a million for the quick help! Cheers!
