Image Capture has wrong IP address for scanner

I'm on Catalina 10.15.7. My Epson AIO WP-4530 has worked with this computer for years without fail. Today, though, Image Capture could not make a "connection" to the scanner. I noticed in Image Capture that it was looking for the scanner at 192.168.1.98, but the correct IP address is 192.168.1.97. There's no way to change that in Image Capture. The printer component was working normally. I opened the setup page on the printer (by directing Safari to the correct IP address) and found that the IP address listed there for Bonjour was, the incorrect one, although the printer, itself, said its IP was correct, 192.168.1.97. I changed the IP for Bonjour, saved, and exited.

Image capture still listed the scanner address as 192.168.1.98 and still could not connect to it.

I installed another instance of the printer/scanner using Epson Printer Finder, made the second instance active, and Image Capture then found the scanner instantly and scanned normally.

I deleted this new instance of the printer, went back to the original instance in Settings/Printers & Scanners, and tried Image Capture again. It still works, but it still lists the incorrect IP for the scanner.

So weird, I still don't know why the glitch occurred or why this process solved the problem or if IC listing an invalid IP address for the only scanner it finds is a potential problem. Just thought I'd post it here, in case someone else finds the experience useful.

Any device added to the network may change the IP used by devices, especially when DHCP is enabled by the router.

Only static IPs when assigned to the device hardware themselves will keep devices on the same IP.

That could have included a Amazon Firestick, or anything on WiFi or ethernet. Although ethernet connections are typically 192.x.x.x, where WiFi are 10.x.x.x unless your router configuration was altered. It is possible if you are renting a router from your internet provider, they could be changing the firmware of the router, affecting the range of IPs.

Oh, I fully understand that IP assignments on a home network occasionally change. That wasn't the problem. Please read again.

The problem was that Image Capture continued to show the old, incorrect IP of the printer, and there's no way to change it. Image Capture was coaxed into working by adding another iteration of the same printer, but the IP of the printer shown in Image Capture is still the wrong one.
