storage space is not cleared after deleting videos on macbook pro

My Macbook Pro shows hard drive almost full 30GB free space. I deleted 54GB videos and empty the trash. But storage space is not cleared after deleting files on macbook pro. Still 30 GB free space. Time machine is off. What wrong with Apple?

Deleted files still taking up space after emptying trash I'm on a MacBook Pro running Mojave. I recently copied a folder over 300gb from my main drive to an external drive. I then deleted those files from the main drive and emptied the trash. This was yesterday but the files are still taking space in the hard drive. I looked at daisy disk and it indeed showed over 300gb in "hidden files" but it can't be deleted because the files aren't there. I've never used time machine. I've tried running in safe mode, doing first aid on the drive, resetting spotlight and a bunch other tips I've seen on here but to no avail. It's showing the same amount of disk space on everything. One thing potentially worth noting is that in the "Manage Storage" window it shows I have 900gb of "system storage." I figure that may be tied to the issue, not sure though. Can anyone offer any assistance ? Thanks.

Discrepancy in free space available on the hard drive? I have a 2015 era 15" MacBook Pro with a 1 TB solid state drive, running MacOS Mojave. I was warned that the drive was running out of space, so I started deleting files, using the storage manager that you get from the "About this Mac" window. Most of those big files were movies, either iTunes digital downloads or movies that I had downloaded from phones or other places, though not edited. It now looks in "About this Mac" like I have 300 GB of space free. However, the (get info) (bottom window of the same machine) shows that I only have about 50 GB free, and 263 GB of purgable space, but it does not reflect the 200+ GB of space that I freed. Any idea what gives and how I can fix this?

Space taken up by "other" on Mac There is 70gb out of 120gb taken up by something on my Macbook Pro 2015. I deleted all the photos, documents, any files. But it's still full. It's all in the "other" tab in my storage overview. Plus, on the screenshot I can see that disk has 101gb but if I count everything on it then I get less than 40gb. How is this possible? And how can I fix that?

Mmmm seems a bit strange,.

If you haven't already, you could try restarting your MacBook Pro, then checking again.
