Transfer iPod Classic to MacAir ?

I have an iPod classic. Wife just got me a newer Mac Air with Catalina 10. 15. 7 (yeah! 3/1/21). Anyone know if it is now possible to take all of my music from iTunes, which I have saved on my classic, to transfer it to the newer Mac Air? My old MacBook is not compatible with migration assistant because it is too old. I tried transferring the entire library on a external hard drive, 53 GB but it did not work, only 1,300 songs were transferred. Also I am not ready to use the iCloud, because I have other devices that are not from Apple. Most of my library is from older CDs and free downloads from back in the day lol. (90's)
