Hi there DreadBoard,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Thanks for reaching out to us with this inquiry about sharing device location. We're happy to provide some insight into this for you. If your friend shares their location, and they are using a non-cellular Apple Watch, the iPhone and Watch must be together to see the location of both. If they are in two different locations, you will only see the location of the iPhone. Now, if your friend is using a cellular enabled Apple Watch, and the companion iPhone is in another location, the location of the Watch can be seen using the cellular signal. You can get more info on location sharing here:

Asked another way:

I have an iPhone and Apple Watch, both of which are connected to the cellular network. I have opted to share my location with another Apple user on both devices’ Find My app. If the iPhone and Apple Watch are e.g. 20 miles apart from one another, which device’s location is used to display my location to the other Apple user in their Find My app?
