My internet browser not opening certain website and requires browser to be upgraded. It will not let me upgrade due to OS Mac OS X ver. 10.5.8 being old. How can I update to near to the latest version.
Alternatively you could use another mac (or call in a favor with a friend who has a 2007-2015 Mac) and make a bootable El Capitan installer.

You have an early/mid 2009 iMac. The first thing you would need to do is find retail Snow Leopard install disks from ebay etc. From Snow Leopard, you could upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.6. Not sure if it's worth the trouble.

FWIW, you can't upgrade directly to El Capitan from OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
