AirPods too low, also too much to hear outside

I have two AirPods - both firs gen. One for me, one for my kid. The newer one (for my kid) however has the problems. The kid ones volume are like 50-60% when on maximum volume, also ther are too loud for outside - you can hear, what the kid is hearing (you can even understand word, when the kids is watching youtube). I can compare this to the other same model AirPods - they are pretty loud on max volume and on normal volume there is no chance to hear anything from outside.

How do I resolve this? Can I turn the volume somehow up? I cleared them multiple times. Also tried to unpair and reset them. Nothing helped. (Tested on several iPhones and iPads. )

So, the problems:

  1. the volume is too low
  2. the outside volume is too high (when should be barely heared, if even)

Any ideas please?

Hello redicius,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with the volume on your son's AirPods and that audio can be heard on the outside. You've taken great steps to resolve the issue so far. Does this occur with all audio or only in certain apps? Which exact version of iOS are you updated to under Settings > General > About on the companion iPhone?

If you clean the AirPods does that improve the audio? This article goes over how to clean them: How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
