Can’t get the display working on my Dell monitor with my new Mac mini.

I’m using the same connections from my old Mac mini but the monitor says the input is out of rang and I need to change the input ton1680x1050 @ 60 hz. How do I do that without the monitor?

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

I have three ideas:

a) Change connection/adapter and hope a different setup works.

b) Find another monitor to change settings and hope the settings stay saved.

c) Use Remote Desktop to change display settings from another computer.

So...

How is the monitor currently connected?

Do you have any other connectors/adapters handy that you can try?

Do you happen to have another monitor or HDMI TV around?

Is setting up/using Remote Desktop an option?
