Shared list in Reminders - assign to contact not showing

Hello, I have created a shared list in Reminders and I would like to assign some items to myself some others to my contact, with whom I shared the list and has already accepted. However the option to assign to contact is not showing. I'm using the latest version of IOS 14.4 on iphone and macOS 12.2.1. Any idea what the issue could be?

I've attached screenshot of the options available to me. As you can see only date and location but not contact symbol

Hello again.

a quick update. I just opened the reminder app on my Mac and it said I needed to upgrade with a link. So I clicked and apparently it upgraded the app and now the option to assign to contact is available on both Mac and iphone.

So it looks like the problem got resolved.

Thanks for your help!

dhava,

That's great! You're certainly welcome. We're glad you were able to sort it out. It sounds like you just needed to upgrade Reminders on your Mac to see all the available features for shared lists. Just in case you'd like to take a closer look, the links below provide information about upgraded Reminders:

Upgrading the Reminders app in iOS 13 or later

Cheers!

dhava,

We're sorry to hear your contact doesn't have a device compatible with upgraded Reminders. It sounds like you're asking if you can revert back to the previous version of Reminders so that you can use the shared Reminders feature again with this specific contact. We can clarify further.

"Upgraded reminders aren't compatible with earlier versions of iOS and macOS. If you upgrade your reminders on your iPhone with iOS 13 or later, your other devices — like your iPad and Mac — can’t access the reminders until you update your iPad to iPadOS or your Mac to macOS 10.15 Catalina." With that said, once you've upgraded Reminders, you can't revert back to the old Reminders app. Have a look at the support article we posted above entitled, 'Upgrading the Reminders app in iOS 13 or later' to learn more about how that works.

"Shared lists require that both the creator of the list and the people who can view it have upgraded their reminders." Keeping that in mind, your contact will need access to a device running iOS 13 or macOS Catalina or later in order to use upgraded Reminders. To take a closer look at which devices are compatible with upgraded Reminders, view the links below:

macOS Catalina is compatible with these computers

Take care.

Hi there dhava,

From what we can tell, you're not seeing the option to assign a reminder to someone in a shared list. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some guidance.

To start, we noticed the screenshot you posted is from your Mac and it's a new reminder. If you create the reminder first and give it a title, are you then able to assign it as expected? To do so on your Mac, follow the steps in the 'Assign a reminder' section of this link:

Assign shared reminders in Reminders on Mac

For more information about assigning reminders in a shared Reminders list on your iPhone, have a look at the 'Do even more with Reminders' section of this support article:

Use Reminders on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We hope this information is helpful. Try creating the reminder and giving it a title before attempting to assign it to someone, and let us know how it goes.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, by upgrading Reminders, the shared list doesn't sync anymore with the older iphone (5s) that my contact is using. Is there a way to reverse to the non-upgraded option of my iphone (IOS 14.4 ) since the old iphone cannot upgrade to IOS 13 nor 14?

Or what alternative apple is offering to share reminders between old and new iphones?

I have not come across any solutions yet but I hope there is one - other than using a third party app or buying a new phone :( .

Hello there.

Thanks but it doesn’t help.

I took a screenshot on my Mac because it was easier but I cannot assign a contact to a reminder on both iPhone, Mac and iPad.

The option to assign is simply not there despite I have the latest os.

i know the link you gave me for Mac. I’ve looked at it already and it doesn’t help because I don’t see the contact symbol.

I’m now attaching a screenshot from my iPhone this time.

i created a reminder and gave it the title “test”. Then I select it as per the instructions but the option to assign to contact is not there.

Same thing on my Mac.

Best,
