Macbook pro problem with iPhoto

I opened up my Macbook Pro (2012) and the photo app is no longer available. I checked in launchpad and the icon for photo as a circle and line through it .what can I do?

Get help with the Photos app on your Mac

You can reinstall the macOS on top of your macOS to sort anomalies, corrupt apps, etc. This will leave your user/data in place

How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

Alternatively you can restore from a backup prior to the app corruption
