Proxies are usually set for corporate networks. They are manually turned on and off, in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network, selecting the port that is active, and hitting advanced.

Adware usually is removable with Malwarebytes and/or Avast.

Unsigned files are any applications you download outside the Mac App Store.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Software Update enables security updates.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Secuity and Privacy -> Security, leave enabled, unless there is software you know that is not on the App Store you can trust.

Advanced Mac Cleaner, MacKeeper, Zeobit, and Macpaw software are untrustworthy. If you have any of these, remove them in safe mode (booting with shift key) using Devon Technologies EasyFind. Remove each their components by name and use Show in Finder before dragging to the trash.

Remove Adobe Flash using these directions.
