I purchased a phone and the person I got it from does not know the email or password to get in phone. Is there anyway to bypass this?

Without help from whoever enabled Activation Lock you will never be able to use the phone. Return it for a refund.
There is no way to bypass the activation lock theft deterrent feature of iPhones (and a similar feature on most Android phones).
