How to forward a file via email while in Finder?

I'd like to forward a file via email when I'm in Finder. When I right click on the file, I see the "share" option and from there a see a fee options. But I'm not able to select gmail to forward the file, even though gmail appears in the list of extensions and has a check mark next to it. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? how can I make this happen? Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike,

Does the option "Mail" appear, rather than gMail ? If so, that is what you select.

Most Mac users have set up Mail to send e-mails and files, and gMail would likely be an option there.

If that is not working, for you and you want the file to be forwarded now, you might try the suggestion below.

From the Finder, you might want to open the Mail app (square blue icon with white envelope) from the dock.

In Mail: Click file > new message in the top menu

In the window that opens, click on the paperclip (attach) icon onright of the top menu bar.

You will now able to find / select the file you want to send by email, and click the "Choose File" button

With the file now in the e-mail, all that remains is to address the e-mail and press send at the left of the top menu bar.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Mike,

As far as I know, you can only send a file from the Finder to the Mail app., where you would address and send it.

In the Mail app, you would choose to send in Gmail, Yahoo, or whatever e-mail account(s) you have set up.

The Mail app can incorporate Mail from all and any E-mail accounts that you may have, if you set that up.

(Eg. my own Mail app. has Gmail, Yahoo, and my NBN provider all linked, so mail arrives, and is sent, all from the one app.)

If you click on the little black Apple icon at top left of the top menu bar, and open System Preferences, then click to open Internet Accounts, that is where Gmail would be listed, as Google.

"Internet Accounts" is where there is help set up any e-mail accounts for you, that you wish to access in the Mail app.

Other than that, you would access your Gmail directly from Google / Gmail on the Internet with the Safari app.

https://mail.google.com/

Gmail online, and the Mail app on your computer can both be used to read and send eMail.)

All the best
