sub folders within a folder

Hi,

I seem to only be able to generate a new folder by clicking on new folder in the initial finder window which puts an untitled folder onto my desktop. I can then drag that into my folder structure where I want it and rename it.

I have tried to simply click on New Folder within my folder structure, at the place I want the new folder, but the New Folder option is greyed out and the command shift N shortcut doesn't work. What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

In order to create a hierarchy of folders, you double-click the parent folder to open it, and then you create one or more new folders at that level. If your hierarchy is to descend further, then double-click on one of the now peer sub-folders, and when it opens, repeat the new folder step.

This may be simpler to manage in the Finder's icon view (⌘+1) than it is in list view (⌘+2), or column view (⌘+3). I also suggest enabling from the Finder View menu > Show Path Bar, so you can see where you are in the hierarchy.
