Microsoft Word (and Excel) App sizes on iMac are double what App Store shows

My Word app takes 2.13GB of storage but the file size on the App Store says Word is 1.1GB. Similar ratio is true for Excel. I don't believe document sizes are included as they are stored in a separate folder.

Should I delete the apps from my iMac and re-install from the App store to free up storage or will they just balloon back up to the larger size in time?

Why Word documents opened and saved in Pages have larger file sizes? Hello to all! I have been cautiously sticking to running my iMac on Mojave and one of the reasons for the hesitation to upgrade has been the loss of my Word documents. However, viewing the relentless progress being made by Apple, I am beginning to feel the nudge to upgrade to at least Big Sur, intending to abandon good old MS Word for good and patronising Pages for my writing flair. Before doing this I decided to know for myself whether the Pages app running on my latest M1 MackBook Air [on Big Sur] would be able to open my old Word documents. Pages did open the documents and I saved one document as Pages document. What surprised me was this: The MS Word document was only 200 Kbs whereas the same document saved as a Pages document was 4 times larger: above 850 Kbs! Is such a large sized documents common to documents created in Pages? Sending you the screenshots of both the documents. Wish to know about the implications of such large sized files as authors will have to plan for larger storage devices to store their data. Regards Dr. Somanna

Document storage not adding up When I look at the "Storage" info on my computer, it says that roughly 80GB are being taken up by "Documents". When I look through the "File browser" in the "Manage Storage" section, the totals only add up to around 15GB. Any ideas on where the additional 65GB could be coming from?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like some of your apps are taking up more storage in Finder than what you expect based on the app size listed in the App Store. You can certainly delete the apps and reinstall. If the issue continues, let us know where you are seeing the storage amount in your Mac and we’ll go from there.
