How to stop AirPods nearby notification

I’m running Big Sur Version 11.2.2

Every time I wake my screen it tells me that my AirPods are nearby, even when I’m using them to talk in my phone. How can this be turned off, other than turning Bluetooth off?

The commonly recommended method below does not work for system notifications like this. There is no app that I can disable notifications for. I have all notifications set to off and this still pops up.

Hi Jlblack,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are getting a notification when your AirPods are near your Mac and we'd like to help. Is the notification you are seeing asking you if you want to connect your AirPods to your Mac? If so, it may be related to Automatic switching.

This feature allows you to automatically switch between devices that are signed into the same Apple ID. You can turn this off for your Mac by going to the Apple Menu (  ) > System Preferences > Bluetooth, make sure your AirPods are connected, click the options button next to your AirPods > Connect to This Mac and choose the option "when last connected to this Mac". That will keep your AirPods from trying to connect to them automatically when they are nearby.

You can find more information about switching devices automatically here: Connect and use your AirPods and AirPods Pro under the section titled " Switch devices".

You can also find some information about connecting and using your AirPods with your Mac here: Use AirPods with your Mac.

Hope that helps!
