wired keyboard not working after Big Sur 11.2.3 update

After updating my MacBook Air to Big Sur 11.2.3 last night my wired apple keyboard has stopped being recognised by the Mac. How do I reestablish connectivity?

Disconnect the keyboard and reconnect it again and test
