Apple Preview auto scrolling thumbnail bug

When using preview, with the thumbnails open on the side, if I click on say "page 1" to select it, preview jumps to select page 2. This bug was reported by this thread too, but the response from support didn't quite understand what the behaviour was. . .

It's absolutely maddening. Seems to only occur if you have Preview set on "Auto Page Scrolling". But wow, it's driving me crazy. To fix, just go to VIEW > Single Page and that will fix this bug temporarily...

Finally, when submitting this report, I could ONLY choose macOS High Sierra - no Big Sur listed. . . so just let it be known this is a Big Sur issue for me.
