I'm using an older Mac Pro with Mac OS 10.9.5 and any malware protection software seems to require Mac OS 10.10 or later.

Catalina - third party security I have an older MacBook Pro (that I love) with Catalina. I've read that support, i.e. security updates, will end in Nov 2022. Are there any recommendations for third party security software compatible with Catalina? I used McAfee when I updated my MacOS from Mojave to Catalina. You generally don't need it unless you're concerned about Windows malware or have accidentally installed Mac malware. If you'd like to upgrade anyway, back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Pro model you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, Catalina, or Big Sur.
