iPhone video issues

I’m having video related issues that seem related as they always happen together. 


Videos in the Twitter app stop working — if I click one it plays for a fraction of a second and then freezes. If I hit pause/play it will play a fraction of a second and stop again. Force quitting Twitter does not seem to help. 


Snapchat videos will play — but if I try to adjust the volume at any time it freezes, and every video I try to play after that will not play.   Force quitting snapchat will make the videos work again — as long as I don’t adjust the volume, which makes it freeze again. 


The camera app will work to take photos, but if I switch to video or slow-mo the screen goes blurry like it’s refocusing and then freezes. I can switch back to photo mode and it still works to take photos, but if I switch back to video it freezes again. Force quitting doesn’t fix the problem. 


Force restarting (or even a regular shut down/restart) fixes all the problems temporarily, but at some point they start happening again. It might be in a week, or a few days, but it will happen. 


This has been going on pretty much since I got the phone just over a year ago, through several software updates. At first it happened rarely, with months in between. But lately it seems like it’s happening much more frequently. I’ve had to restart several times in the last week, including this morning.


When it doesn’t happen often, a restart here and there to reset a bug is no big deal but I’m starting to get more annoyed. 


Any idea what could be causing this? Anyone else seen anything similar? I can’t figure out yet what triggers it to start happening.


I haven’t done a factory reset yet so that will be my next step if it continues.

We're understanding you to say that you're running in to issues playing video content in the third-party apps WhatsApp and Snapchat. You've taken some great troubleshooting steps for those apps. You also notice that when using the Camera app to record video or use the Slo-Mo mode, the preview is blurry. A restart of your iPhone resolves the issues, temporarily.


There are a few more steps we'd like to have you take for the third-party apps in the following article. Be sure to let us know what you discover. If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open Also, if during this time you try to use the camera within these apps, what happens?


For the Camera app, please be sure your iPhone's iOS is up to date. You can verify that in Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an update available, be sure to backup first. All the steps are in this link: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Also, to be sure, you're not on a phone call when attempting to use the Video or Slo-Mo modes, correct? They won't work when on a phone call, which is why we ask.
