iPhone 12 pro max - Mic not working when recieving calls

I'm not sure why this occurs but whenever I receive an incoming call I put it on loudspeaker. Once I do that the other person cannot hear me.

It's not an issue with the microphone, as when I go to record a video or record a video on Instagram/snap the microphone works immediately.

This surely is a software problem? Have others experienced this?
